10 members of the UCologne jazz choir
Where?
Cologne, Germany
What?
"You sound amazing! I really like your voices. And that arrangement, it's great!"
How did they react?
10 times "Thank you!". Smiles. "Do you wanna sing, too?" "Hell yeah!"
How did I feel?
Full of surprise. I was out running in Cologne's lung, a green belt. On weekends people rave there, setting up more or less legal open airs. Families have picnics, teenagers drink their first secret sip of beer or smoke joints. Sport students work out, old men practice tai chi and little girls hop into handstand. Birds chatter. Sparrows, ducks, swans. They're all there. The air: A mix of guitar sounds, barbecue smells, breezes making leaves dance...
I like it there. (Pictures: Below)
I saw a group of people, swinging. Wearing headphones I didn't hear what was going on. I left my route and approached them, wondering what was going on. Their mouths were moving. I took my phones off. Their voices blew me away. The girls sounded like nightingales. The arrangement they were performing had some fine chords, it was by Vocal Line, the song was Hallelujah. No one else was listening. I got a private concert in the sun!
Talking to them afterwards was super easy. They had a friendly, open vibe.
I ran off just to realize I really wanted to listen some more. When I returned they were gone. I think they all transformed back into birds and flew away...
I took these pictures a day later. It was a weekday morning. Obviously the green belt is slightly emptier then... But still beautiful.
