Who?
Thomas
Where?
Berlin, Germany
What?
"You have such a full, beautiful voice! I dig it!"
How did he react?
He nodded and said, "Thank you!"
How did I feel?
I have done it before: Complimenting a guy on his full voice. However it was a different voice in a different situation; That makes a whole different compliment. They are never the same.
Here is today's one:
I entered the store at 11 PM. I had just learned about the row of papers publishing the DPA article on this project. I was beaming with joy! Celebrating this crazy surprise had to go down with a glass of prosecco so I got a bottle and some chocolate to share with my roommate. Can you keep a secret? When I buy candy I can never wait till after I have paid. I open it the second I take it from the shelf. Technically that is illegal in Germany so I sometimes try to soothe the clerk by offering them a fair share. I did so with Thomas, too. Like most people he said no, thanks. A few moments later he backtracked and added, "Know what, today has been such a shitty day, I might as well have some chocolate." I answered, "For sure! Take as much as you want! And concerning your bad day, see, I have to tell you something. Here is the thing-..." I explained the project to him. Then told him that, even before he had mentioned his day I had known he was my candidate. It had been clear to me the second he'd opened his mouth. His voice was sonorous and very warm. I thought of audio books he might record and songs that could be great for him to sing. His reaction was sweet: He looked at me, nodded, and said thanks. We laughed together. Glad about that interaction I left the store, realizing that there was one more thing. Thomas, in case you read this: I dug your earring, too!
